Find your funny!

Ever wanted to turn your funny stories into stand-up, create a comedy routine from your life experiences and have lots of fun being a comedian for a few hours?

This workshop provides you with everything you need to write and perform your first piece of stand-up comedy.

Who’s it for?

Anyone who would like to try their hand at writing and performing speaking in a comedic way.

This course can help everyone from budding comedians to people who want some new inspiration for their business presentations or those who find the whole process of talking about themselves nerve- wracking. You might have some great stories and would like to make them ready for an audience or just for your own pleasure. This course gives the tips and tricks to learn how to be comedy club level funny from an award-winning stand-up comedian and coach.

Aims of the course

• Find out what your comedy persona is and how to deploy it.

• Learn why you might struggle to talk about yourself and give tips and tricks for nervousness.

• Learn comedic writing devices used by professional comedians.

• Give your presentations distinction and gravitas through comedy.

• Perform your writing to create amazing comedy sets using your body and voice.

• To understand of the role of the writer and performer on a comedy stage.

Students will receive personalised feedback on their comedy sets and get experience being on a comedy stage.

About Angie Belcher:

Angie Belcher is a comedy pioneer, whose career has evolved from stand up, acting and performing to award-winning work as a coach and trainer, teaching comedy to CEO’s and staff at major organisations and delivering ground-breaking workshops through the NHS.

Angie can be seen taking the lead role of paranormal investigator Mary Striker in the Midlands horror flick Crispy’s Curse on Amazon Prime. An expert communicator and award-winning comedian, Angie regularly comperes the Glastonbury Festival’s raucous Cabaret Tent and is an accomplished stand-up comedian and writer ("Highly recommended, go see her”, Phil Jupitus). Her show “Mythical Creature” won North East Theatre Guide’s best show at Edinburgh Festival and she gained 3rd Place in What The Frocks’ best UK Comedy Newcomer competition.

Angie has produced, directed, and written “The Bristol Comedy History Walk” as part of her role as Comedian in Residence at University of Bristol and wrote "What Has Shakespeare Ever Done for us?" a piece of public flash theatre which was created to pop-up around Bristol to promote The Bristol Shakespeare Festival 2013.

A proud graduate of The Institute for the Development of Human Potential, she holds a post-graduate diploma in Humanistic Psychology for Leadership, Facilitation and Coaching. Angie is course leader for stand -up comedy on Circomedia’s BA course in Contemporary Performing Arts, Writer in Residence for First Story, Associate Lecturer in Comedy Writing at the University of Worcester and Comedian in Academic Residence at the University of Bristol.

In 2022 Bristol Live named Angie Bristol’s 2nd most influential woman for her pioneering work in comedy and health. The Hague awarded her World Comedian of Emancipation 2022.
