One Scene Wonder: Summer Filmmaking Course for Teens
Monday - Friday 10th - 14th August 2026 from 10:00 - 16:00 at our studio on Chatterton Street, Bristol BS1 6PR
A professional filmmaking experience for young people aged 14-18 who are serious about film, acting, and storytelling.
At The Actors’ Workshop Bristol, our short courses are built around one principle: young people learn best when they are trusted with real work, led by professionals who understand the industry as it actually is.
One Scene Wonder: Teen Filmmaking Week is a week-long intensive designed for teenagers aged 14–18 who are interested in filmmaking — whether that’s acting, writing, directing, camera, sound, or editing. It offers a rare opportunity to experience the full filmmaking process in a structured, supportive, and industry-informed environment.
This is not a generic summer activity.
It’s a serious, age-appropriate introduction to professional screen work.
Why us?
Parents choose TAW because of our reputation for high-quality, industry-relevant training and our commitment to treating young people as emerging creatives — not just participants.
Our tutors are experienced professionals working across acting, filmmaking, writing, and production. They bring real-world insight into how film and TV are made, and they know how to translate that experience into teaching that is rigorous, supportive, and inspiring for young people.
For Bristol families, this means access to London-level industry expertise without leaving the city.
Unlike many youth film courses, One Scene Wonder:
Is led by professional actors and filmmakers, not facilitators or volunteers
Reflects how filmmaking actually works, in an age-appropriate way
Balances creativity with structure, responsibility, and teamwork
Gives equal value to behind-the-camera roles as well as acting
Focuses on finishing work to a high standard — and sharing it publicly
Participants work collaboratively to create an original filmed scene, gaining hands-on experience in writing, performance, technical roles, and post-production. The course ends with a final screening for families, giving young people the experience of completing and presenting real creative work.
This course is ideal for young people who:
Are interested in film, TV, media, or acting
Enjoy writing, storytelling, or technical problem-solving
Want to explore both creative and technical roles
Are considering drama school, film school, or creative pathways
Would benefit from a confidence-building, collaborative experience
No previous experience is required. What matters most is curiosity, commitment, and a willingness to work as part of a team.
By the end of the week, participants will have:
Helped create and complete an original filmed scene
Gained insight into acting, writing, directing, camera, and editing
Developed teamwork, communication, and creative confidence
Experienced professional expectations in a supportive setting
A clearer understanding of creative and industry pathways
Parents often tell us that their young people leave with greater confidence, focus, and a stronger sense of direction — whether or not they go on to pursue the arts professionally.
Course format & care
One-week intensive (August)
In-person, Bristol-based
Small group size for individual attention
Led by experienced professional tutors
Clear structure, supervision, and pastoral care throughout
Final screening for friends and family
We prioritise a safe, friendly, and inclusive environment, where young people are challenged creatively while feeling supported and respected. Our studio is wheelchair-friendly.
A Bristol course with professional standards
Bristol has a rich creative and film culture, and One Scene Wonder is designed to reflect that — offering local young people access to serious, professional training without needing to travel or relocate.
This is a course for families looking for quality, depth, and real-world relevance, not just a way to fill a summer week
